for your amusement

This is a screen-capture I just took of the Dictionary.com entry for inchoate:

excuse me, smart ads, you have a problem

It looks perfectly reasonable, doesn't it? Until you notice this:

dictionary.com "inchaote" ads

thanks to my co-worker Keith for pointing it out.

My guess? It took the word "fully developed" in negative context, and decided that THAT was the most "popular" linkage for adwords.

Still. Yeep.

I remember an ad a few years back about some sorta fire sale (banner ad) and it was running directly above a rather heart-wrenching story about a couple of kids who'd died in a housefire.

Remember, kids: just because it's related, doesn't mean they go together.

Except did you see what Jill found?

Then I looked up "Children" and got things like, "Children Bible Crafts" and "Children Pictures." Good wholesome things. :)

"Child" however, yields "Battered Women" and "Domestic Violence."

Ummmmmmmmmm .... maybe it's a reference to definition number one? That's about as much thought as I'm willing to put into that one. Sheesh.

Horribly, I can only see "hollow of a yoke into which a pole is fitted" as the most likely culprit.

Oh wow. It took me so long to see what you were talking about. LOL.

Kept reading the definition: "I don't get it? What's so shocking/funny?"

The Ads are weirdness. I looked it up and got the same. So, not a hoax you're a pullin. :)

Then I looked up "Children" and got things like, "Children Bible Crafts" and "Children Pictures." Good wholesome things. :)

"Child" however, yields "Battered Women" and "Domestic Violence."

How? How do they decide what correlates?
