I'm alive!

I picked up my passport today. The pretty young man behind the counter had a chocolate coin festively tied around his neck with shining pink-yellow ribbon. When I asked about it, he explained he'd won an award in the office today, then slyly showed me a glimpse of a rather official looking document that stated OFFICE CLOWN. "That's a good thing to win for," I said. "The best," he replied, "sign here." And that was it. Everything's done. I can now legally leave the country.

It's an incredible step towards freedom. Plus, bonus, my picture doesn't make me look like baba yaga, like my last one.

I'm getting good suggestions as to where to go, in regards to Obvious Things I would Have Forgotten Otherwise, like the Palace of the Arts, Fisherman's Wharf, the California Academy of Sciences, and Moma.

Years ago, there was a church in San Francisco (Ethopian Orthodox, I think), that was trying to get John Coltrane canonized. If I can find the name/address I will pass it on to you.

I think you mis-read, I'm going down to Seattle this Friday evening, flying to SF on the 1st, flying back to Seattle on the 6th, then coming back to Vancouver on the 6th or 7th.

I don't think that you actually need a passport to leave Canada. You DO need one to get into the US and many other countries - and you need one to return to Canada unless you have other ways to prove that you reside here.

Of course, there are several routes one could travel wherein this rule is irrelevant. Technically it only applies to patrolled border points.

Hallo! This is Phil. You and Tony met met Naj and Rob and me at Willow's for brunch this weekend. I see you were scheduled to visit hackerbot, although I don't remember having seen you there. I hope you guys will consider dropping by the next time you're around to do so.
